Greg and I were looking for idea for things to draw on our Drawbot and Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven struck us as a good fit.

To create this image we used a combination of vector illustration and code. Greg drew an alphabet and a tileset of ribbon pieces in Adobe Illustrator. I created a Processing program that reads text styled with an ad-hoc markup language (shown right), arranges the letters and tiles together, and generates a PDF file. We used Illustrator to put on the final touches and sent it to the plotter.
