Justin is a designer, creative coder, and teacher working at the intersection of technology, art, and design.
Justin Bakse teaches art, design, and code. He has taught courses at MCAD, Carleton, Pratt, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Parsons, where he served as full-time faculty and director of the BFA Design + Technology program.
He makes art with and out of code, with a focus in procedural generation and interactive installation. His recent research focuses on developing tools and materials that support teaching creative coding.
Prior to teaching full-time, Justin directed digital projects at Brand New School and founded The Studio for Interactive Media with Eric Ishii Eckhardt and Greg Schomburg. He has worked with clients ranging from local organizations like the Dance Theater Workshop and Mount Auburn Cemetery to Fortune-500 companies including Google, IBM, Adobe, and Coca-Cola.
Justin graduated from the Cranbrook Academy of Art with an MFA in 2D Design and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a BFA in sculpture and interactive media.
Justin lives and works in Minneapolis.
